Brown Dog Left Super Engine Bracket for 1987-1999 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ 4.0L & 4.2L I6 - Accepts Original and Aftermarket Headers.
In-line 6 cylinder engines in Jeep Wrangler YJ and TJ are prone to broken engine block mounting bolts and cast thread bosses on the left (driver-side). Caused by a collision, routine potholes, rough railroad crossings, or off-road excursions, this often results in the engine dropping and the fan poking a hole in the radiator and/or fan shroud.

The 'Engine Saver' solution.
The Brown Dog Offroad left (driver-side) Super Jeep Engine Bracket features seven Grade 8 or metric equivalent 10.9 bolts - four more than the originals - which significantly reduces  offroad torsional forces shearing bolts or broking engine mount thread bosses. No engine block modification necessary. Ideal for fixing a motor with broken cast block bolt bosses. Depending on how you use your Jeep, these brackets can be used with either original-style motor mounts or our high-performance motor mounts/motor mount lifts.

Accommodates aftermarket headers.
Unique design accepts original style exhaust manifold or aftermarket headers by providing more space in exhaust manifold area. (Frankly, we'd make all our Super brackets accept both types of exhaust manifolds, but this design requires more time. Don't mention this to our accountant. He'd want to raise the price!)

Hand-crafted in the USA of 1/4" USA steel plate.
Brown Dog brackets are made of 1/4" USA steel plate. While others use 3/16" steel, we know the 1/4" USA steel plate is stronger. The parts are carefully laser cut and drilled. Then double-checked against our drawings. Then we double-weld the bracket assembly for even more strength. Next your bracket is triple-checked for fit. After polished to white, the brackets are put in our ovens. This proprietary finish has become the beacon of quality sought by Jeep owners around the world. It's the sign of a quality performance build. We team our Super Brackets with all USA Grade 8 and M10.9 hardware needed for installation. Finally, it's all carefully wrapped and packaged with a sticker and instruction tips.

Lipless design accepts motor mount lifts, too.
Doing a tummy-tuck, making a flat-belly, or have driveline angle issues, a motor mount lift may help you. As with all Brown Dog engine brackets, our Super Brackets feature the Brown Dog unique lipless design which eases installation of MMLs. All our engine brackets accept stock-height motor mounts (MMs) or 1", 1.5" or 2" motor mount lifts (MMLs). Design will not interfere with installation of 1", 1.5", or 2" MMLs.

Hardware included.
The Brown Dog ships all new Grade 8 or metric equivalent 10.9 hardware (others only provide Grade 5). We include everything needed to bolt the brackets to the seven existing thread bosses. We also include Grade 8 or metric 10.9 through-bolt(s), the prevailing-torque metal nut(s), and washers for securing brackets to motor mounts or motor mount lifts. 

Application notes:
Utilizes existing bolt pattern found on driver side of 4.0L and 4.2L (inline 6 cylinder) Jeep engines originally installed in: 
  • 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ 4.2L I6
  • 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ 4.0L I6
  • 1997, 1998, 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0L I6
Installation notes
  • In preparation for installation, we suggest using PB Blaster or similar to clean out the additional engine block thread bosses.  
  • Installation instructions showing which holes take which bolts will be included with your bracket can be emailed ahead of time when requested.
  • Since you need to remove the transmission mount nuts prior to changing the bracket, we suggest examining the old transmission mount and having a new transmission mount on hand. Upon examination, customers commonly find the old transmission mount split in half.
  • Can be installed with original and most aftermarket oil pan skid plates.
  • If your aftermarket skid plate bolts to the engine block, call us for technical assistance.
